About the Artist

Porter Smith-Thayer
Every morning I wake up and want to paint. After a cup of coffee, usually, but some days I just step into my studio in my robe and bare feet. You might be able to tell from my artwork that my brain may be a little whacko, since there are so many kinds of paintings that come out of this 74 year old woman. Yep, my studio is a luscious mess and I find myself in all kinds of trouble some days. "Happy Trouble." Precariously stacked piles of paint tests, books, tissues and torn cardboard await me, hoping to tip over when I'm not looking. Sometimes they make it and I get down on the floor to discover a new layer of joy: shapes, marks, never-before-seen colors, and a new idea inches its way into my life. Come join me.
